Stuck on the content hamster wheel? Here's how to get off

The first month or two of your creator journey are brutal.

They were for me at least.

Overwhelming amounts of information.

Constantly scrambling around for last minute content ideas.

Desperately trying to keep up with engagement and networking.

I felt like a hamster on a wheel that kept getting faster and faster with no way to get off.

It’s a horrible place to be.

And, unfortunately, to this day I still see so many creators stuck on this horrible not-so-merry-go-round.

But it doesn't have to be like this.

You absolutely can escape the enslavement of the content hamster wheel.

I am proof of that.

The best part?

It only takes 3 things.

1) Batching content

I have tried creating content both ways.

I have tried "on the fly" posting where you are always reliant on inspiration striking at the right time every day.

And I have tried "batching" my content for the week all in one go.

And I can tell you right now.

If you rely on posting content "on the fly", you will never be free.

When I used to rely on posting content daily, I was constantly stressed.

My mind would constantly agonise over the next tweet I had to write. The next email I had to send. The next visual I wanted to create.

Content creation quickly turned from a blessing to a curse.

I am sure a lot of you reading this can relate to this feeling.

And this anxiety is only made worse when you have other commitments like a 9-5, family to care for, or school work to be doing.

You entered the creator in the hopes of achieving freedom.

Only to find yourself more trapped than ever.

When I switched to batching my content, however, everything changed.

My life became easy.

My stresses washed away.

I found the joy in writing again.

Now, whenever 8AM on Saturday morning rolls around, I sit down and go into deep focus.

Airplane mode: engaged.

Headphones: on (usually some form of house / techno).

Tabs open: one.

And just like that, I have 28 tweets primed and scheduled for the week ahead.

This takes me roughly 2 hours now (although it was more like 4 when I first got started).

And it frees up my time to focus on what really matters during the week: building relationships and overdelivering for my clients.

I strongly urge you to build a similar system if you are feeling overwhelmed when it comes to creating content.

2) Leverage digital assets

Let me ask you a question.

Would you rather constantly have to explain the same solution to a people week after week?

Or would you rather have a timeless asset which you can simply point people to when they discover your account?

If you said option 2, then welcome to the game.

Because there is a reason I push you guys so much to create lead magnets, products and courses of your own.

These are timeless, digital assets which will make your life so much easier in the long run.

Yes, there is an upfront cost.

They require a large initial time commitment and a lot of dedication to make them exceptional (like I preach).

But once they are done, they are done.

They are yours forever.

Your assets.

Your digital real estate.

And any time someone comes to you asking about that topic, you will have at your disposal a full arsenal of products to deliver to them and immediately establish your authority.

For example, I no longer have to waste time explaining how to write good hooks, stories or create lead magnets.

Because I have written E-books to explain all of these things for me.

And now that I have this leverage, my time is freed up to focus on more lucrative ventures.

This is the same situation you need to manufacture for yourself.

Digital assets are how you do this.

3) Find 3-5 powerful allies

Online business is not a single player game.

You are the main character, of course.

But that does not negate the importance of having a few powerful allies by your side.

My journey got a whole lot easier when I stopped trying to play the game on my own and instead started forming connections with the people whose views on life aligned with my own.

Again, this is what you need to do for yourself.

Find 3-5 exceptional creators you admire.

Work out what makes them tick.

Leverage this as an initial "in".

And then form an small clan of likeminded individuals who are committed to progress and growth.

These are the people you will bounce ideas off each day.

These are the people you will learn from.

These are the people who will help you grow.

This is the exact strategy MrBeast devised when he first entered the YouTube scene.

And that hasn't worked out too badly for him has it…

I would strongly advise you to do the same.

I hope that was helpful guys.

Because the content hamster wheel is a miserable place to be.

And I'd love more than anything for you guys to start freeing yourself from it.

Harry
