The real reason you aren't making money
Something caught my eye yesterday on my đť•Ź feed yesterday.
It was a smaller account.
Only 5-600 followers.
And he’d only been posting on 𝕏 for maybeeee 6-7 weeks.
Solid results, but pretty unremarkable, right?
But here’s the thing.
He was already making well over $3k/month with only 500 followers!
Now, most people on đť•Ź would see this and assume one of 3 things:
1) He was lying
2) He got lucky
3) He already had a connection that “hooked him up”
But I don’t think so.
Because this isn’t the first time I’ve seen this sort of phenomenon on 𝕏.
I personally know plenty of accounts with only 4-500 followers that are already making their first $1-2k/month online (and they aren’t liars or scammers).
And so this got me thinking.
What is it that separates the people who make money on 𝕏 from those who don’t?
Because it isn’t just about the number of you have followers (these guys with only a few hundred followers making 4-figures/month have proven that).
And it isn’t just about your content.
Because (and while I am obviously biased here) I think I’ve had fairly solid content during my Twitter journey. Yet it still took me getting to ~2k followers before I made any money from this.
I’m not saying follower count and content don’t matter.
They absolutely do.
I’m just saying there’s a far more fundamental reason why most people on 𝕏 aren’t making money yet.
And it’s a trap that I also fell prey to until a couple of weeks ago.
Because the REAL reason you aren’t making money on 𝕏 is actually pretty simple:
You aren’t OFFERING anything!
You see, when I look back, the exact day I managed to monetize my đť•Ź account was precisely one day after I decided to commit to pitching an offer every single day!
Funny that, eh?
It’s blindingly simple when I think about it now.
I would hazard a guess that if you have 500+ followers and haven’t made any money online yet, it’s because you aren’t offering something every day!
If you don’t have an offer in place, it’s like going to a restaurant where there’s no menu and until you guess an item they serve, you don’t get any food. That’s hardly going to rake in hungry customers is it?!?!
Now, maybe you already know all this.
Maybe you already know you need an offer in place but you don’t know HOW to create a solid offer.
Well then, I want to use this email to help you create an incredible offer of your own and start earning money today!
Here are the 8 steps you can take TODAY to craft an irresistible offer:
1) Decide WHICH skills you can monetize
Don’t tell me you don’t have any skills you can monetize.
Writing on đť•Ź every day? Ghostwrite for people.
Grown your đť•Ź account to even a modest 5-600 followers? Teach people to grow online.
Work a 9-5 in software, marketing, graphic design or have a hobby in a similarly useful skill? Offer freelance work.
Until 8-9 weeks ago I’d never written a tweet in my life.
Now I’ve made ~$2.5k in the last 12 days teaching people how to do exactly that.
Every single one of you reading this either has a monetizable skill already or can learn one in under 60 days.
2) Decide WHAT you want to offer
If you know what you want to offer, great - skip ahead to part 3.
If you don’t, then I HIGHLY recommend you start by ghostwriting.
Why?
Because with ghostwriting will literally be getting paid to improve the skill you’re offering - writing.
Important note: It isn’t enough to say “I’ll ghostwrite for you”.
Be more specific.
How many articles or tweets will you write a week?
How long will you provide this service for?
How will you measure the success of your service?
Otherwise it’s like asking a girl out on a date but not telling her a time, day of the week or where you’re even going. Hardly enticing is it.
The more specific your offer is, the more interested people will be.
3) Decide WHO you want to work with
Continuing down the ghostwriting angle (as an example), here’s a few options:
Bloggers
Busy CEO’s
Media companies
Think about the types of people you would genuinely ENJOY working with and design your offer around them.
The more specific the better.
4) Decide HOW LONG it will take you to get results for people
This is a key part of any offer.
People need to know when they can expect results by.
If you’re offering fitness transformations, tell people how long it will take to lose 20lbs (for example).
If you’re helping people grow on 𝕏, tell them how long it will take them to get X number of followers.
If you’re teaching people to monetize their brand, tell them how long it will take them to earn $[insert amount of your choosing]/month.
Decide a reasonable timeframe in which you think you can achieve results for your clients and make this a core part of your offer.
5) Decide HOW MUCH people are going to have to pay you for this
Here’s what I recommend.
Work for FREE for your first 3-5 clients but treat it as though you were getting paid.
Do jaw-droppingly good work for them.
Then create a free testimonial.to account.
Ask them to provide testimonials for your services.
Then, once you’ve gathered 3-5 incredible testimonials, use these to attract paid clients (or convert your existing free clients to your paid services).
Set your initial offer at $500-$1,000 for a pack of 4 consultation calls with you (or whatever makes sense based on what type of work you are doing).
You can increase prices from there once you’ve gotten people results.
6) Decide HOW MANY people you want to work with
Do NOT try to work with too many people.
All this will do is overwhelm you, give you an impossible workload and cause you to deliver mediocre results for your clients.
2-3 clients MAXIMUM when you’re first starting out.
Prioritize quality over quantity and build an image for your brand as one which gets exceptional results.
7) Decide HOW you are going to advertise this offer
Here’s the best places to make your offer:
On the đť•Ź timeline (every once in a while)
At the end of your newsletter (this is the BEST option)
In the DM’s on Twitter (but don’t be a sleazy fucker and try to push this on people that don’t need it)
Just make sure you are pitching your offer in at least one of these places every single day.
8) Decide WHY people should act now
The final part of a compelling offer is giving people a reason to act now.
Because if there’s no reason to act now, then people won’t act.
Here’s a few ways to achieve this:
Limit your spaces (“Only 2/5 spots left”)
Tell people your prices are increasing (“Increasing to $199 in 5 days”)
Tell people you’re running a sale for 24 hours with a 33% discount
These are just ideas.
Work out something that fits your specific offer the best.
