this ONE mistake is destroying your đť•Ź growth
70 days ago today I decided to create an X account to start building my online business.
And what a ride it has been.
I've gained 2,500 followers.
I've built an email list of 1,000+ subscribers.
And I've made well over $2k of "internet" money.
But I didn’t do it all perfectly.
In fact, looking back, there's ONE key thing I messed up early on.
And if I had managed to avoid this thing, I would've got to the point I'm at today even sooner than I did.
So, what is this killer mistake you ask?
Perfectionism.
You see, when I first started tweeting on X, EVERYTHING had to be perfect.
After all, I was putting my content out there for the entire world to see.
So it needed to be absolutely perfect, right?
My visuals needed to be impeccable.
Every pixel of my banner needed to be optimised.
I couldn't afford to miss even a single comma in my tweets.
*Face palm*
Looking back this was such a huge error that absolutely stunted my growth early on.
Because when you’re under 1-2k followers on X, the harsh reality is that no one is reading your content.
And even more importantly, absolutely NO ONE is scrutinising your content (except you).
I wasted hours and hours crafting the "perfect" content in the early days of my X journey.
But all this ever did was make me stressed and frustrated when my content didn't get the amount of impressions or likes I thought it deserved.
I’d look at 100k+ creators posting their shower thoughts and think to myself “how the fuck has that got 1k likes while my long form that I poured my heart into this morning only got 4!?!”
So frustrating.
But obviously I was missing the point.
Because those big creators went through exactly the same process at the start of their X journey too - it’s unavoidable.
And focusing on perfection in your early days only makes this frustration worse.
Now, the other side effect of this perfectionist mindset is you waste time and end up sacrificing the amount of content you actually publish to X.
And when you're in your early days, the best way to learn is simply to put out as much content as possible and see which resonates most with your audience.
Some tweets will pop off, which is obviously great!
But some tweets will absolutely flop, and that's also fine!
Because this is how you learn.
Look at what worked and what didn't and then use that to shape and improve your future content.
But you'll never get the opportunity to do this if you get caught up in the perfectionist mindset that traps so many young creators who never end up publishing anything!
So shift your mindset.
Focus your early tweets on the big picture:
Build consistent posting habits
Analyse what works and what doesn't
Use this feedback to shape your future content
Turn your mindset away from perfectionism and towards improvement.
I guarantee you'll get a lot better results and also have a lot more fun on your X journey if you can make this mindset shift.
Right.
I'm going to leave it there today guys.
I hope that was helpful.
Talk soon,
Harry
