- this is why no-one reads your tweets
this is why no-one reads your tweets
When I first joined đť•Ź, I had no idea what to write about.
And what did everyone tell me?
Write “listicles” and question tweets!
They get tons of impressions and will help you grow!
Morons.
“Listicles” and “question tweets” might get some impressions which feels good for your ego.
But they do absolutely jack shit to grow your brand unless the CONTENT inside them is actually useful to people.
So in this post I’m going to break down exactly how to write content people actually want to read and which will grow your brand.
Because in my mind there’s only one type of content worth posting on 𝕏.
What it this, you ask?
It’s content which shows competency in your field (everyone calls this “authority” content).
Your job as a writer is to solve people’s problems by posting this “authority” content AND to combine this with your unique personality to distinguish yourself from everyone else.
That’s how you build a brand.
Not fucking splitting your content into “33% growth, 33% authority and 33% personality” tweets lol.
I’m now going to show you how to do this.
But first, let’s define exactly what people mean by “authority” content.
Authority content is simply content which:
1) Takes a problem you have already already solved it + explains how you did it (i.e. proves your competency), OR
2) Takes a problem you’re currently solving + how you’re doing it (i.e. takes them on your journey)
That’s literally it.
That’s all people mean when they talk about “authority” content.
So, how do you come up ideas for this “authority” content and write about it in a way which people actually want to read?
2) Define your avatar
The first step to writing content people actually want to read is defining who it is you are writing for.
This ideal reader is called your “avatar”.
This is crucial because if you don’t have a clear picture of who you are writing for, you will be solving problems people don’t care about.
And if you are solving problems your readers don’t care about, then no one will read your content.
So think carefully about who you want as an ideal reader (this is up to you!).
List out their biggest:
Fears
Struggles
Pain points
Then approach it from the reverse angle.
List out their biggest:
Desires
Motivations
Pleasure points
You should also think about their personality traits.
Are they creative or more logical?
Are they ambitious or more laid-back?
Are they entrepreneurial or more the standard “9-5” type?
Again, all of this stuff is so important because once you have a clear understanding of WHO it is you are writing for, you will gain a clear understanding of WHAT it is you should write about.
The who implies the what.
That is the missing link which will solve your “I don’t know what to write about” problem.
Now, onto the actual writing.
3) Hook with the pain point / desire
All you have to do at this point is to hook with either a pain point or a pleasure point on your list.
If your avatar is someone trying to grow on X, hook with something like “Under 1000 followers and struggling to grow?”
If your avatar is someone trying to monetize their personal brand, tease them with your results, saying something like “Here’s how I reached $X/month in under 60 days.”
These are just examples.
The point is to target a specific pain point or desire of your avatar.
Because you know when that pops up on their feed it is something they are interested in achieving and hence they won’t be able to help themselves from stopping and reading it.

4) Raise awareness around this pain point
The next step is to keep people interested.
And the best way to do this is to first raise people’s awareness of the problem you are solving.
Tell them WHY it is so important to solve and how much better their life will be once they’ve fixed it.
I do this using my Anti-Vision -> Vision framework.
Start by telling the reader all the bad stuff that will happen if they don’t fix this problem. Create a sense of panic and fear.
And then do a swift 180 and present to them your “better” way of life which solves these problems.
Here’s a quick example:
“The creator economy train is arriving.
And if you don’t jump onboard now, you’ll be left stranded in a 9-5 job you hate for the rest of your life.
But secure your ticket before the rest of society and you’ll secure a life of financial freedom.
So here’s 5 steps to start creating content online which earns you $$$: ...”
See how the contrast between the anti-vision and the vision creates a powerful fear response that makes it extremely hard for the reader to stop reading?
This takes some practise but you’ll soon get really good at this.
5) Split the solution into 3-5 logical steps
Finally, make your solution SUPER logical.
Attention spans are low as fuck right now.
So as soon as you lose the readers’ train out thought, they are GONE.
Split your solution into 3-5 logically coherent steps.
Then dedicate a section to each of these.
Once you are done, read it through again and pay attention to these two things:
1) Does the argument flow logically from one sentence to the next?
No? Fix it.
2) Pay attention to when you have the urge to scroll past your own words.
Why?
Because the point at which YOU have the urge to scroll is the point at which your reader will also have the urge to scroll.
And that is bad news if you want to have them hooked on your ideas.
So spend some time to rework that section.
Fix this chink in your armour.
Boom.
That’s your “authority” point covered.
Use the above steps and you’ll immediately come across as 100x more competent and 100x more interesting to your readers.
Now, finally, for the “personality” angle.
6) Add your personality
Let me be clear.
You do not need to dedicate specific tweets to “showing your personality” like everyone else tells you.
People act like you need to split your writing into “authority” content which is just a bland “how-to” style post and then a separate tweet which shows you at the gym to “show your personality”.
This is so dumb.
You should be showing your personality in every single post you write.
How do you do this?
Write in a voice that feels like “you”.
If you are blunt, be blunt.
If you swear a lot like I do, then swear in your tweets.
If you are super happy and smiley all the time, reflect that in your writing style.
Oh, and one more thing that will make you stand out a whole lot more lads.
STOP BEING A FUCKING PUSSY.
Stop being so scared to say what you actually think or write a certain way.
The response to my writing has improved dramatically once I said fuck it and started writing in a voice that I actually enjoyed and said fuck it to anyone who didn’t like it.
You’ll be 100x more interesting once you lose the filter.
Because if your goal is to be replaced by ChatGPT, then the most sure-fire way to achieve this is to post only tutorial-style posts which have about as much personality as a wooden plank.
And that is literally all you need to do to create content which people actually want to read guys.
Work out who you’re writing for
Find their pain points and desires
Show them how to solve these
Embed your personality in every tweet you write
Be completely unfiltered
I have no idea why people make it so complicated.
Right.
I’ve rambled for long enough.
Talk soon,
Harry
