Nick, Dick and Koe give me an epiphany
Dan Koe, Dickie Bush and Nicolas Cole.
Yesterday I spent 2 hours watching a 3 year old YT video from these guys.
I’ve watched it easily a dozen times.
In fact, it’s the video that sparked my interest in becoming a creator.
And every time I watch it, I learn something new.
Not because the video changes (obviously…)
But because I’m able to view it through a new lens.
The experiences and lessons I’ve learned allow me to pick up on nuances, details and intricacies I previously missed.
Yesterday was no different.
Because there’s a section of this video where Dan talks about his flagship community “Modern Mastery” (does he still run this? Someone let me know.)
And when Dan launched this community, he recalls the initial selling angle was “this will help you make more money”.
Which worked fine.
But only fine.
Because what he later came to realise was that he’d missed out on a huge chunk of the value equation…
See, it’s easy to assume the only thing people want is to make money.
That’s what we all get taught, right?
That’s marketing 101 —
You need to be showing people the payoff.
And what better payoff than a bunch of card hold cashola to blow on sex, drugs and Danny Koe?
For a long time that’s a hill I would have died on too - “it all comes back to money”.
Funny.
Because a key lesson I’ve learned recently is that money isn’t the only thing people care about.
They want a comfy life, sure.
They want to give their family a good life, sure.
They want to go to sleep never having to worry about their next payday, sure.
But people also value something much more fundamental…
People value LEARNING
Skill acquisition.
Self-improvement.
Building their arsenal of evergreen weapons - writing, sales, persuasion.
Because they understand that these don’t just apply to social media.
They carry over to ALL aspects of your life.
Want to ask for a raise? Well, you better learn to persuade.
Want to start a business? Well, you better learn to sell (yourself and your products).
Want that girl to keep texting you? Well, you better learn to write in a way that doesn’t make you sound like a caveman who’s just discovered fire and still wipes his arse with a bunch of scrunched up leaves.
And this is the same realisation Nick, Dick and Koe came to on that YouTube video.
As soon as they reframed the angle from “this will help you make money” to “you’ll learn these key skills (which will later help you make money)”, their sales exploded.
And when I think about it, this really is common sense.
Because, while money is nice, it’s not the reason I became a creator in the first place.
I didn’t care about “MRR”.
I had no interest in the “Money X” rabbit hole we all get sucked into.
I didn’t give a shit about “automated sequences” that squeeze more value out of my audience than a dad choking down his 17th plate of Kung Po Chicken at the Chinese buffet because he “needs to get his money’s worth”…
I became a creator because I love to write.
To explore new ideas.
To connect the dots.
To lose myself in the words, feel that sense of flow and pour my thoughts out onto the page and build something bigger than myself in the process.
And, from talking to a bunch of you guys recently, it seems you feel the same way too.
Which is exactly why I’m creating this writing course for you guys.
Will it make me as much money as working with high-ticket clients?
Unlikely.
But I honestly don’t care.
Because I’m having the time of my life creating.
I’m building something that I’m genuinely proud of.
And I’m creating something which I genuinely believe will help you achieve your own goals in life (whatever they are).
Writing is, after all, the key to the good life.
Isn’t that what good ol’ Dan taught us all anyway?
Talk soon,
Harry
PS. Course update: Halfway through the storytelling/holding attention module right now. Hoping to get the rest done today (50/50 on this, lol. There’s a LOT of nuance to good storytelling).
I’ve also realised a big thing people struggle IMPLEMENTING the writing principles in real life. So I’ll also be incorporating a bunch of exercises, action points and videos of my writing process inside the course to help you guys implement (rather than learn a bunch of useless theory!)
