What exactly is "insight" content?

Value… or insights.

That seems to be the “hot topic” in the Creator Economy at the moment.

I think (or at least I hope) you understand what people mean when they talk about “value” content.

But what I think most people don’t understand is the second part of the equation:

Insights.

So I figured I’d write a quick ol’ email today to help demystify “insights” for you just a lil’ bit (and give you a few “prompts” to help you find them for yourself).

But before we talk about how to “find” insights…

First, we need to define what an insight is.

And rather than giving you the “textbook” definition…

I want to show you the example Google (my best friend) gave me when I asked it “what is an insight?”

"His mind soared to previously unattainable heights of insight."

Previously unattainable.

That is the KEY to understanding the mystical “insight” content.

It is something that you have observed, learned, or now understand which you previously didn’t.

Why is this important?

Because if YOU didn’t previously understand it, there are a million and one people hiding in your audience who still don’t.

And guess what’s going to happen when you share that insight with them?

They’re going to see YOU as someone who knows more than them.

They’re going to see YOU as the expert.

They’re going to see YOU as the authority on that topic because you’ve educated them on something they were previously unaware of.

And that’s what’s going to open up their mind to the prospect of not just following you, but actually working with you.

After all — people only work with people who can educate them on the things they DON’T understand (I don’t think any sane person would argue with that).

And now the question you really wanna know the answer to:

How do you find insights?

Well… I can’t pretend I have a “formula” for this.

No-one does (despite what they might have you believe).

But there ARE certain “prompts” you can give yourself which will make spotting the insights effortless.

For example…

  • What trends or “patterns” have you observed in your market recently? What do you like about them? What do you NOT like about them?

  • What do most people do which you think are stupid? Why? And how can you show them a “better” way?

  • What did you once believe which you no longer do? Why? How can you use your personal experience to bring your audience to the same conclusion?

For example…

Here’s an “insight” I shared a few months ago, which I “tuned into” because I asked myself the question “what is a common belief most people have about why they can’t land clients?”

See how that works?

You ask the right prompt.

That sparks the “creative” juices in your brain.

And that allows you to bring your insights, which had previously been tucked away in your brain, to the surface.

And one more point…

This isn’t about showing people “how” to do stuff.

This isn’t about becoming another ChatGPT rip-off.

And this certainly isn’t about being a contrarian for the sake of being a contrarian (disagreeing with everything you hear is as stupid as believing everything you hear, in my opinion).

No.

This is about thinking, critically, about whether there’s a better way to solve the problems your audience are struggling with.

Opening up their eyes to new possibilities.

And using the lessons you have learned through personal experience so that you can achieve that elusive brand presence you’re searching for:

Authority.

This is what happens to you when you share insight content.

You’re showing people that you’re able to think for yourself.

You’re showing people that you’ve got real-world experience with the shit you’re talking about.

And you’re using these insights to lead your audience towards the same “lightbulb” moments you’ve personally experienced, so that they perceive you as an authority on that topic (and are therefore 100x more open to working with you).

People talk about building a unique brand.

They act like it’s about WHAT you write. They act like it’s your bio which makes you unique. They tell you to spend hours thinking about your banner, landing page, and crafting the perfect “brand message”.

But the truth?

The only unique thing about your brand is the thoughts you have, and the insights they lead you to.

That, my friend, is how you build a brand which stands the fuck out.

Harry

PS. You might think you don’t have any insights to share.

I can assure you — you do.

You have a wealth of opinions, experiences and life lessons from the past 20+ years which are just waiting to be “tapped into”.

You simply need the right “guidance” to spot them.

I’ve given you a taste of that with this email (there’s only so much I can do with 800 words).

But, given these are the key to establishing your authority in social media…

I have curated a huge list of 60+ prompts, examples and content angles which will enable you to “extract” insights with ease (so that you can build your authority and land clients ASAP).
