Don't know what to offer? Do this
5 steps to remove all the confusion
“I don’t know what to offer”
I was there once.
Confused.
Overwhelmed.
And $0 earned.
So I want to help you fix that.
Here’s the 5 steps I took to formulate my offer and turn it into a $10k/month personal brand:
1) Pick a monetizable skill you ENJOY
If you don’t enjoy the thing you do, you’ll quit.
But if you the thing you do isn’t of high value to other people, you’ll never make any money.
(You’re not going to get very far if you base your offer around underwater basket weaving…)
So you need a skill which is both high-value and enjoyable.
Here’s a short list of options to pick from:
Web design
Copywriting
Ghostwriting
Video editing
Email marketing
And please don’t complain if you don’t already have one of these in your arsenal.
When I started on Twitter 120 days ago I didn’t even know what copywriting was.
Now I own a $10k/month personal brand built exclusively around it.
You can get outrageously proficient in one of these skills in 2-3 months if you commit 1-2 hours a day to learning it.
Next, you need to decide on a business model.
2) Decide what type of work you want to do
Think about what type of work you enjoy doing.
Enjoy working 1:1 with people? Coaching offer.
Enjoy leading a team? Cohort-based offer.
Hate talking to people and couldn’t think of anything worse than talking to people on Zoom calls? Delivery-based offer (e.g. building someone’s welcome email sequence).
(BTW - I have no idea if ‘delivery-based offer’ is the right term for it but it serves the point).
Just pick the modality of work you will actually find fulfilling.
Next, you need a client avatar.
3) Decide what type of people you want to work with
Try to sell to everyone and you’ll end up selling to no-one.
You need to have a specific target client in mind for your offer.
It’s not enough to be an “Email marketer”.
An email marketer for who?
SaaS companies?
Retail businesses?
Personal brands?
Pick a niche with a decently-sized Total Addressable Market (TAM) and go all in on that.
Next, you need to understand into that space.
4) Find people in your space and ask them about their problems
So many people mess this up.
They create an offer out of thin air.
They put together this elaborate marketing campaign.
They get the party poppers out ready to celebrate as the money rolls in.
And then?
Crickets.
Why?
Because they built their offer without
Before you create your offer you need to be out in the market, talking to people every single day to understand what they are ACTUALLY struggling with.
Create a Notion document - your “problem database”.
Every time a new problem comes up, make a note of it in there.
(Bonus: keep a tally against each problem so you can identify which are the most burning ones to solve).
Next, you need to pick one of these.
5) Pick ONE of these problems
Let me be clear.
Your offer needs to solve ONE problem.
Not two.
Not three.
Not one hundred.
One.
Don’t promise to help people grow on X AND monetize their brand AND write their newsletter.
If you try to solve multiple problems your offer will end up solving each of them poorly and you’ll never deliver on the results you promised.
Pick one.
And build everything in your offer around solving this one single thing.
6) Summary
That's literally all it takes to decide on your offer lads:
Pick a monetizable skill you enjoy
Decide the type of work you want to do
Pick a specific market to work in
Go out into the market and observe problems
Solve ONE problem for yourself and build your offer around that
Common sense.
But common sense is the way to do it.
